Director of Photography
Jimmy Ferguson is a multicultural, multi-award-winning cinematographer and filmmaker. Since the pandemic, he has photographed the psychological thriller VIRAL, starring Blair Underwood and Sarah Silverman, the drama POINTE NOIRE starring Roy Dupuis in Cajun Country Louisiana, the RomCom STEP BACK, DOORS CLOSING based in Washington DC, and the doc-hybrid TORAH TROPICAL in Cali, Colombia.
Jimmy launched his career in fiction filmmaking in New Orleans, becoming named “Louisiana Filmmaker of the Year” in 2008. Shortly after he relocated to NYC where he developed his career in commercials and advertising (winning the CINDY Gold Award for his #NotAFan campaign against domestic violence in 2016). Based out of Brooklyn, he traveled extensively for documentary and fiction stories and leveraged his video expertise for collaborations in video art, live performance, dance, and public projection.
Jimmy has lensed over seventy films and filmed in over fifty countries. His collaborations have premiered at prominent film festivals (New Directors New Films, CPH:DOX, Ji.Hlava, Woodstock, DOCNYC, Maryland, Mill Valley, Newport Beach) and cultural institutions (The Whitney, MOMA, Viennale, Smithsonian), and have won numerous awards and grants (Sundance, Tiffany, JSP, Jerome, IFP, TFI). His commercial work includes the following clients: Canon, Samsung, L’Oreal, Maybelline, Redken, Rolling Stone, and Google. He was interviewed by Canon for a video featuring noted cinematographers and their choice of Canon lenses.
Jimmy, when not running film crews, cares for his self-sustaining land dedicated to healing in the tropical Andes of Colombia. He is a multilingual communicator who specializes in diverse and international productions and he promotes cross-cultural awareness in his everyday practice.
