He has created 8th Century Europe for Vikings, 19th Century France for The Count of Monte Cristo, Victorian London for Ripper Street, 20th Century New York in Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and more recently imagining the future in Intergalactic, not necessarily in the countries (or galaxies) in which they are set.
Starting out as an Assistant Art Director on the Oscar-winning Irish film My Left Foot in 1989, Mark worked as an Art Director for films including The Commitments and Into The West before making his Production Designer debut in the adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s acclaimed novel The Snapper.
Since then, Mark has worked on many Irish and international productions such as Tristan + Isolde, Welcome To Sarajevo, The Debt Collector, Dancing at Lughnasa, The Actors and Jim Sheridan’s acclaimed In America.
He has also been involved in more mainstream, international fare such as the comedy drama Everything Is Illuminated and the Jim Sheridan-directed Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, for which his acclaimed work resulted in an IFTA for Best Production Design in 2006.
Mark’s other film credits include Shrooms, Leap Year, My Brothers, Death Of A Superhero and the multiple IFTA-winning Calvary.
Since 2012, Mark has worked on the Amazon series Ripper Street, work that has brought him much acclaim, including another IFTA in 2013 and a BAFTA TV Craft Award in 2014. Most recently, Mark worked on History Channel’s Vikings and Sky One’s sci fi Intergalatic.
