Jonathan Schwartz

Editor

The son of a surgeon and a psychologist, Jon Schwartz approaches story construction with an empathetic curiosity for the vastness of human experience and emotion — while also making very precise cuts.

After obtaining an undergraduate film degree from Columbia University, Jon came up under Paul Hirsch and Joe Hutshing, two legendary film editors with three Oscars, two BAFTAs, and three American Cinema Editor Awards between them. Only Paul made Jon cry, and it was only once.

At age twenty-eight, Jon was an original editor on the groundbreaking series “Modern Family,” for which he also earned an American Cinema Editors Award, as well as two Emmy nominations. His television work includes dark comedies and dramas across formats, as well as pilots with directors David Gordon Green, Nicole Holofcener, John Hamburg, and Larry Charles.

With a decade of feature experience, Jon has edited movies for 20th Century Studios (both as a Fox and a Disney company), Lionsgate, Amazon, and Netflix. He enjoys the creative challenge of hopping across genres, as well as the variety of working with both experienced and first-time directors.
