Director of Photography
Diego Dussuel is a leading Spanish cinematographer and camera operator. He graduated in Audiovisual Communication in 1995 from the Instituto Profesional de Arte y Comunicación ARCOS in Santiago de Chile, where he later worked as an assistant professor of cinematography under the guidance of Mario Ferrer. In 1992 he participated in the Light Workshop directed by Héctor Ríos at the Federico Santa María University in Viña del Mar, and in 1994 he obtained a Masters in Cinematography: ‘Daylight’ at the International Film and TV School in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He then attended a workshop led by Dean Cunday in Santiago.
In 2002, Dussuel completed a Masters in Creative Documentary at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He has taught photography at several film schools, including ESCAC and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Since 1994, he has worked as director of photography on feature films, television series, music videos and advertising campaigns.
His extensive filmography includes collaborations with acclaimed directors such as Isaki Lacuesta, Pablo Trapero, Laurent Cantet and Neus Ballus, including titles such as ‘La leyenda del tiempo’, ‘Los pasos dobles’, ‘La próxima piel’, ‘Entre dos Aguas’ ’, “La plaga”, “7 días en la Habana”, “Regreso a Itaca” and “La quietud”. His work has received prestigious awards, including Best Cinematography at the Gaudí Awards for ‘Entre dos Aguas’ and two Golden Shells at the San Sebastian Film Festival for ‘Entre dos Aguas’ and ‘Los Pasos Dobles’.
Dussuel is also recognised for his contributions to high-profile television series such as ‘Zero, Zero, Zero’ (Amazon Prime), ‘Patria’ (HBO), ‘Citadel Diana’ (Amazon Prime) and ‘I Addicted’ (Disney+), all of which have achieved high ratings and critical acclaim. Known for his versatility, he ably leads teams on diverse productions around the world, having worked in countries such as Spain, France, UK, USA, Switzerland, Italy, India, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. He operates the camera on most of the projects he undertakes and has been based in Barcelona for over 25 years.
