Chester Howie is a Los Angeles-based film and television editor specializing in premium, genre-forward scripted stories. Working in both the US and UK, Chester’s recent credits include major streaming series like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Shadow & Bone, and the horror feature Play House.
Originally from London, Chester moved to California at 18 and has spent over a decade immersed in the post-production industry. His foundation in filmmaking is uniquely firsthand: after earning his MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, he spent five years assisting and learning under his father, the acclaimed editor Niven Howie. This rigorous blend of elite mentorship and academic training has shaped Chester into an editor with a deep reverence for cinematic language and a precise instinct for shaping rich, nuanced performances.
In the edit bay, Chester maintains an adaptable, open-minded environment. While he brings clear narrative opinions and strong creative instincts to the table, he believes the best cut is discovered through shared experimentation, happily auditioning every note to feel its full impact before deciding its merit. Above all, Chester favors projects with a sharp script, a bold genre identity, and a genuinely collaborative creative team.
