Michael Lira is Chilean-Australian born film composer and multi instrumentalist across multiple genres. With a background of experimental music as founder of bands like Darth Vegas and Vicious Hairy Mary, has made the shift to film scoring.

Recent notable feature film scores include 2 global number 1 Netflix hits; author Matthew Reilly’s action packed feature Interceptor as well as the family animated Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp. Other all 3 Roache Turner brothers features Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead (2014) , Nekrotronic (starring Monica Bellucci) and most recently Wyrmwood: Apocalypse (recently in the top 10 independent films list on the Apple Store USA) , and Daniel Nettheim s -The Hunter (2011 ) Starring Willem Dafoe.

As MD and composer for live shows ..credits include : International touring with Club Swizzle, Meow Meow, Circus Oz, and in Australia , live scores with cult band Darth Vegas for Murnau’s classic- Nosferatu (1922) at the Sydney Opera house. A run of shows with Sydney Theatre Company’s production of A Comedy Of Errors in 2013 and even a series of Joan Rivers performances at Sydney’s State Theatre a long time ago.

Lira’s scores have won numerous awards, including the Tropfest Tropscore award (Apart, 2013), five APRA/AGSC awards for television music (A to Z of Contemporary Art (2013), The Slap (2012), Rake (2011), Staines Down Drains and The Einstein Factor (2004)} and an AACTA/AFI for The Hunter (2011) and a long list of nominations.

Michael is currently writing material with dark visionary Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City) for the exciting new feature adaptation of Karel Capek’s 1921 play R.U.R.
