Mitch Engel

Originally from Washington, D.C., Mitch Engel graduated from the New York University Film School in 1980 as a Louis B. Mayer fellow. His student film, Coop, won the University film festival’s top award in 1981 and was a Mobil Award finalist that year. In his early years, Engel worked at Edgar J. Scherick Associates, eventually becoming vice president of production and supervising a variety of television movies. In 1993, Engel left the Scherick staff and continued producing. For his work, Engel was nominated for an Emmy and was the recipient of the 1998 Golden Globe Award for Best Movie or Mini-Series and the 1997 CableACE for Best Mini-Series.

Engel soon developed into an international producer, traveling to South Africa for Home Alone 4. He returned to South Africa to produce the highly rated TBS movie, Red Water, Primeval and Avenger. In 2003, he produced the highly regarded and topical limited-series The Grid for TNT.  Shot on three continents, the 6 hour show starred Julianna Margulies, Dylan McDermott, and Tom Skerritt and was directed by Mikael Salomon.  He also produced The Curse Of King Tut’s Tomb and The Cheetah Girls One World, filmed entirely in India.

In 2008 and 2009, Engel was off to Mexico City to produce the television series, Persons Unknown, a mystery thriller which aired on NBC and was a co-production venture between Fox Television Studios and Televisa. After that show wrapped, he was in Dallas for most of 2010 to produce the Fox Television Series, The Good Guys, from creator Matt Nix and starred Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks.

Following a USA Cable pilot, Wild Card, filmed in New Orleans, Engel produced the first season of the FX/Fox Television Studios co-production of the series, The Americans.  The production survived Hurricane Sandy in New York City, and went on to become the most highly acclaimed show of the mid-season.
